UNAM Chicago Seeks to Expand Collaboration with the University of Notre Dame

Feb 25, 2025

The Director of UNAM Chicago, Guillermo Pulido, and the Liaison for Interinstitutional Affairs, Alberto Foncerrada, held a meeting with the Director of the University of Notre Dame in México, María Mercedes Salmon and members of UNAM Faculty of Law, including its Academic Secretary, Rosa Carmen Rascón Gasca, to advance cooperation in various areas.

The meeting covered details of the visit by Notre Dame’s Vice President and Associate Provost, Michael Pippenger, to UNAM this week, including a meeting with the Director of the Faculty of Law, Sonia Venegas Álvarez. It also laid the groundwork for concrete actions to benefit the migrant community. The Director encouraged attendees to familiarize themselves with the Migrant Action-UNAM platform, recently presented by the Rector of UNAM, Leonardo Lomelí, and Mexico’s Secretary of Foreign Affairs, Juan Ramón de la Fuente.

Among the immediate initiatives agreed upon are the creation of a joint diploma program on migration between both law faculties, the promotion of a professional visit program to the University of Notre Dame focusing on immigration law, and the strengthening of cooperation with the Kellogg Institute in studies on democracy.

It is worth noting that the University of Notre Dame ranks among the top five universities worldwide in the promotion of human rights.
