Mar 4, 2025

Last week, a meeting was held with researchers from UNAM and the University of Illinois System who received seed funding for the 2024-25 period.

The event was inaugurated by Dr. William Lee Alardín, Vice-Provost for International Affairs at UNAM, who emphasized the importance of this meeting as a reflection of the outcomes of inter-institutional cooperation. Also present was Dr. Pradeep Khanna, Associate Vice President for Corporate and International Relations in the University of Illinois System, who reaffirmed both institutions' commitment to fostering joint research.

In her remarks, Dr. Elvira de Mejia, Director and Founder of the Initiative for Mexican and Mexican-American Students (I-MMAS), welcomed attendees and highlighted the success of the collaboration between UNAM and the University of Illinois System, strengthened by the agreement signed in 2022 by UNAM’s Rector, Dr. Leonardo Lomelí Vanegas, and the System’s President, Dr. Timothy Killeen.

Dr. Guillermo Pulido, Director of UNAM Chicago, celebrated that some of the projects presented had secured additional funding, allowing for the expansion of their research scope.

The UNAM researchers funded by these grants come from the Biointerfaces Laboratory of the School of Dentistry, the Institute of Renewable Energies, the Institute of Geology, the Institute of Chemistry, and the Department of Food and Biotechnology of the School of Chemistry.
