“Español a la mexicana”, produced by UNAM Chicago for social media, is a series of educational videos that has become a huge success: the premiere video has accumulated over 110,000 views on Facebook with almost 4,000 likes!
Directed at non-native Spanish speakers, but always interesting for everyone, it teaches us the intricacies of the Spanish language, especially the Mexican dialect, such as the pronunciation of the letter "x", the use of the preposition "hasta", dequeísmo, characteristic slang like the word "chido", the differentiation between "tú" and "vos", and the use of diminutives, among others.
The teacher of this first season is Cinthia Portes Gurrusquieta, a graduate of the Teaching Spanish as a Foreign Language program at FES-Acatlán. Cinthia completed her remote social service and in-person professional practices at the University of Illinois in Chicago, thanks to the academic partnership programs that this campus has with various institutions in the Eastern United States.
One of the functions of the UNAM in Chicago is to teach Spanish not only to non-native speakers but also to those whose parents are Mexican or Latino, and Spanish is their native language. For them, a series of courses have been created that are taught in the school and other institutions. According to social media metrics, our followers are mostly native Spanish speakers.
We invite you to follow our “Español a la mexicana on our social media: Facebook, Instagram, and TikTok.
We are preparing the next season with new students who have made this pedagogical linguistic project a huge success with their professionalism and dedication.
