Launch in Chicago of the UNAM Migrant Action Platform

UNAM Chicago and the Consulate General of Mexico presented the UNAM Migrant Action, a platform which contains essential information for the Mexican community in the United States and those who have returned to Mexico.

 

The event, held at the Consulate General’s facilities, was attended by community leaders, representatives of the Latin American consular corps, chambers of commerce, media, community college academics, and immigration law specialists.

 

During the platform’s launch, María Elena Medina Mora, Jorge Madrazo, and Juan Vega, university specialists responsible for the areas of mental health and legal support, explained the contents of this digital tool.

 

UNAM Migrant Action is an initiative promoted by the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) in close collaboration with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (SRE), providing professional information in three key areas:

 

✅ Legal advice: Clear information about migration rights, referral of cases to experts, and informational materials in various formats, including Nahuatl.

 

✅ Psychological support: Evaluations and remote professional guidance, with confidentiality, and access to tools for emotional well-being.

 

✅ Educational resources and training: Information about online courses, high school, and distance-learning bachelor's degrees, and academic and job training tools to strengthen opportunities for our community abroad.

 

The in person meeting was held by Amb. Reyna Torres, Consul General of Mexico, and Guillermo Pulido, director of UNAM Chicago. Remotely, were representatives from the Mexican Consular Network in the Midwest USA, the Secretariat of Institutional Development, Tamara Martínez, the coordinator of Special Projects, Néstor Martínez, and William Lee, Vice Provost for International Affairs.
