With an audience of over 900 viewers on Facebook and YouTube, UNAM, through the Faculty of Higher Studies Zaragoza, and the University of Illinois System organized the virtual symposium “Healthy Aging,” featuring top-tier researchers from both institutions and the National Polytechnic Institute.
“Thanks to the leadership of the institutions organizing this symposium, there are no limits to what we can achieve by working together to help people live longer, healthier lives,” said Adrienne Nazon from UIC, who expressed gratitude for UNAM’s efforts in facilitating this scientific exchange on the latest advances in this highly relevant field of medical research.
The symposium saw active participation from its organizer, Elvira de Mejía, Executive Director and Founder of I-MMAS; Naoko Muramatsu (UIC-Chicago); Wendy A. Rojas (UIC-Urbana Champaign); and Diego Ricardo Félix (CINVESTAV-IPN). Topics discussed included the prevention of degenerative diseases such as Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s, which are increasingly common among the elderly population.
This type of collaborative effort between UNAM and leading universities in the northwestern United States brings the best specialists in key topics to the most vulnerable populations.
