Last week we held a productive meeting where we learned about the research achievements from ten distinguished professors, all of them beneficiaries of the 2022-2023 seed funding from UNAM and the University of Illinois System. The areas of research of these academics ranged from energy, health, food, water and the environment. Five of the researchers came from UNAM, four from the University of Illinois in Urbana Champaign and one from the University of Illinois in Chicago.
In the welcoming remarks he delivered, the Director of UNAM Chicago, Guillermo Pulido, praised the dedication of the participants in their collaborative research which paved the way for a new agreement signed in February 2024 by the leadership of UNAM and the University of Illinois System. He acknowledged Dr. Elvira de Mejía, founder and Executive Director of I-MMAS, for her commitment and careful follow up on this and all the range of issues that bind our academic institutions. During the meeting there was the explicit commitment to explore avenues for additional funding of the above mentioned projects.
