Thanks to the outreach efforts of UNAM Chicago with the National Museum of Mexican Art in Pilsen and the Art Institute of Chicago (AIC), the exhibition “Frida Kahlo’s Month in Paris: A Friendship with Mary Reynolds” was presented for the first time to a full house at the AIC. It was accompanied by a lecture titled “Frida Kahlo's Impact on Queer and Feminist Mexican Art of the 1980s” by Luis Adrián Vargas, an expert from UNAM’s Institute of Aesthetic Research.

Frida Kahlo’s life, relationships, and self-image were the subjects and driving forces of her work, disrupting the boundary between the private and the public in a way that was unusual for her time, said Vargas.
