On Friday, January 23, UNAM Chicago marked the conclusion of the Invierno Puma 2026 program. With both joy and a touch of nostalgia, we said goodbye to a group of students from various UNAM schools and faculties who took part in a unique immersion experience in this vibrant city. During their stay, participants strengthened their English skills and visited universities, historical and cultural landmarks, as well as community and public service institutions such as the Consulate General of Mexico in Chicago, where they gained firsthand insight into daily life in the region.
On Monday, January 26, UNAM Chicago welcomed a new group of students and alumni from universities across Mexico to launch the Chicago Business Immersion Program. Through lectures, meetings, and site visits to universities, companies, and chambers of commerce, participants will gain a deeper understanding of the region’s business environment. Director Guillermo Pulido emphasized the importance of UNAM’s internationalization efforts through high-quality academic programs at its 13 international campuses, highlighting in particular the Chicago campus as it celebrates 25 years of academic engagement.
A unique photo exhibition on Native Americans
We had a great turnout for the opening of the photography exhibition “A Jouney of Honor” by Heather Hathaway. In an engaging—and at times deeply moving—conversation, Hathaway shared how her experiences as a Mexican American woman, and her own cultural history shaped by indigeneity, colonization, and survival, informed the way she listened, learned, and moved within Lakota spaces.
The exhibition features more than fifteen years of relationship-based work with the Oglala Lakota people of the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation. Centering pow wow dancing, sacred land, and ancestral gravesites, the photographs capture elders, adults, and youth in moments of movement, humor, focus, and connection. Together, the images reflect Native American strength, continuity, and the deep wisdom carried through ceremony and everyday life.
The exhibition will remain open through February 12th. We encourage everyone to come visit Monday through Thursday, 9:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m., and Fridays, 9:00 a.m.–3:00 p.m.
